How Could Workplace Competition Improve Your Health?

According to a research, exercise at the workplace using a pedometer and social media shows potential to avoid cardiovascular risk and improve health. This study involved over 70,000 workers in 64 countries, mostly in Asia, but including Europe, North & South America, and Africa. The result was presented at the American College of Cardiology’s, Chicago and published online in a medical journal.

In the program, teams of different office compete with each other or with a group of companies in other countries to see who can take the high number of steps in a day. It was a 100-day challenge and workers used to post the progress or results on social media websites for motivation, encouragement and competition.

The result revealed that workers increased their daily activity by approximately 3,500 steps, reduced sitting time by 45 minutes, exercised for around one extra day per week and lost about three pounds. As per company employees, “the program has encouraged them to change their daily lifestyle and through this program they achieved good health results, felt more active and have built better stamina.

Through this program, it has become easy for people to fight with the heart disease, including stroke and high blood pressure. A recent study shows that heart disease can claim the ultimate cost as the most common cause of death.

However, the research only looked at short-term results and is not sure whether this program can lead to long-lasting health benefits. Also, there is no proper information on any changes in workers’ unhealthy cholesterol levels and other health conditions.

The success of this program has encouraged the researchers to extend their research in various sectors to improve health of the workers as they don’t get much time from their busy schedule.

According to the medical practitioners, this program is a step in the right direction for the well-being of the workers. This will also shape up their future in a better and prosperous way.

How to Choose a Blog Topic

In the recent times, you will find blogs, articles, contents and other type of write ups almost everywhere in the virtual web world, right in front of your screen. You will find people writing about n number of topics and publishing them. Be it general or technical or Information Technology related or medicines or even business management, the virtual world has it all.

The combination of words, framing them in a meaningful sentence, giving out the briefs of a particular topic, is what a write-up is all about. And, along with these ingredients, it’s the author of the writer who chooses the right words, at the right time, with an engaging tone, giving it a perfect face of a diplomatic point of view on the topic.

So now, coming back to the topic of this write-up, on how to choose a blog topic, let us give you some insight and ideas as to how you can go ahead.

You should choose a topic where you know you are much confident about. It is very much important to understand that one should not publish anything with random words, just for the sake of filling in the body of the text.

If you have a vague information or knowledge about a topic, which you are being given to write about, make sure you have a good research done on the same. Along with that, collect data as much as possible related to it, and try to understand what it’s all about, and what exactly is the topic asking you to write on. For example, if a writer who’s good at medicinal topics, might or might not be able to write on topics related to Information Technology, like Java, C++, etc.

Perception, is what that, defines the situation, where you might have understood a subject in a total opposite manner. Trust me, this can land you in question about your understanding ability, and you can see your hard work go straight into the dustbin.

Hence, try to write about something that you have an idea about. And for the difficult ones, Google is always there, like a writer’s best friend, to help you, giving you a wide range of links on the related topic.

Bokeh in Photography

Bokeh means Blur. It is a photography technique that is used to blur the areas of a photograph. Basically, bokeh pictures have only one point of focus, and is used for making an image look visually pleasing. The purpose of using bokeh is to make the subject stand out from the background.

Here are a few simple and easy tips that you can use to achieve the best bokeh effect in your shots:

Fast lens: To get a nice bokeh, use a fast lens with a large aperture as it decreases the depth of field to a very small area. Lenses with f/1.4, f/1.8 or f/2.8 apertures are preferred. If you don’t have a fast lens, increase the distance between the subject and the background.

Get close to the subject: Stand close to your subject to get a blurred background. This is achieved because the camera lens focuses closely on the subject and the depth of field will be the smallest.

Long lens: The longer lens you use, the more beautiful bokeh you will get. Using a long lens like 70-200 mm, will separate the subject from the background and will leave you with a fantastic bokeh.

Use longer focal length: If you are using a zoom lens, then zoom it to the maximum focal length. Increasing the focal length of the lens decreases the depth of the field and separates the subject from the background even more.

Shutter speed: Set the shutter speed faster than 1/50 second. 1/90 or above shutter speed is ideal. If it’s too dark, increase the ISO level higher than 800.

Bokeh, the subject and the background can be used in different ways. People mostly use it as a background effect because it makes the subject more appealing and beautiful. So try this beautiful technique in your photography and get amazing results.

Importance of Music

Humans love listening to music. Music plays an important role in our lives. Have you ever considered what would be our life without music?

The world would become a silent place. People spend hours listening to music and will willingly spend money on it. Music is central to any event whether it is a wedding, sports function, funeral, birthday or any other celebration. Listening to music while going to work keeps us fresh and active for the entire day. It truly helps our minds to relax.

Music is everywhere and is for everyone. It’s present in our social events, when you put an infant to sleep, have dinner with a partner, in prayer or in studies.

There are lots of benefits associated with music. Whenever we are tense, many of us just turn on our music to calm down. Music acts almost like a medicine for us. Below are some examples of how music is important to us.

  • Music helps people to express their feelings simply. Whether it’s anger, love, joy or any other kind of emotion, it is easy to express with music.
  • What’s amazing about music is its power to bring people together. Everyone understands and enjoys it. It inspires people to sing and dance together.
  • As per Susan Harper Todd, “Music is the language of the Universe”. Music is the only thing that connects us all. Everyone in the universe enjoys and understands music.
  • Music is a great source of inspiration to us. Whenever we feel low, we will often turn to music as it helps us in concentrating on our goals and keeps us motivated.

Without music, our life would be somewhat empty. It keeps us busy in our free time, make us relax when we are tired and keeps us calm. It keeps us fresh and helps prevent mental and emotional problems. It truly is a universal language that every human understands.

Photo-Merging in Photoshop | Tutorial

Photoshop provides a wide range of photo editing methods, among these is the techniques of merging two or more different photos. We can merge the two different photos or make a beautiful collage in Photoshop using a powerful tool call Layer Mask. The layer mask tool allows us to create beautiful graphics by combining several images into one continuous image.

In this tutorial, Shaw Academy explains you how to combine multiple images using Photoshop:

Step 1

First step, you need to do is to open the 2 images in Photoshop which you want to merge. You can easily do it by dragging the images into Photoshop.

Step 2

Open the first image that you want to use as foreground and press Ctrl A to select the entire photo.

Step 3

You can also use the selection tool to select the specific section of the image, in case if you don’t want to merge the entire image.

Step 4

After selection, press Ctrl C, to copy the selection and open the image which you want to use as a background image. Then, press Ctrl V to paste the selection into the background image as a new layer.

Step 5

Then, open the layers’ window and double-click to type “Layer 1” name, you can choose “Foreground” as the layer name, then press “Enter.” The original image layer will be displayed as “Background” on the layers’ window.

Step 6

Click on the Layer Mode list with the “Foreground” layer selected.

Step 7

Choose the method, you want to blend the two layers. There are two options – Normal and Pin Light. The “Normal” option places the foreground image on the background image. The “Pin Light” option replaces the colors of the foreground image with a background image and create amazing effects.

Step 8

Adjust the two merged images by dragging and then click on File and select the Save As option to save the new merged image.

As you have seen, merging photos is easy in Photoshop, but finding images of the same resolution and color-space is not so easy. If the images are not matching the new merged image file will look bit artificial because of a color mismatch. But don’t worry, Photoshop is having one more amazing feature of changing colors. You can easily remove the original colors from the photos and fill your own colors to give the new photo a real look.

How to use that tool, Shaw Academy will explain in its Photoshop course. Follow Shaw Academy Google Plus page for more information.
